Callahan selected for next ‘Isle La Motter of the Year’

ISLE LA MOTTE – The Isle La Motte community has its next “Isle La Motter of the Year.”

Earlier this month, the organizers behind the annual community prize announced that Barbara Callahan, the former president of the Isle La Motte Historical Society and a prior member of Isle La Motte’s school board, would serve as the town’s next Isle La Motter of the Year.

“It is with great gratitude that Isle La Motte ushers in the reign of Barbara Callahan as the 2026-to-2027 Isle La Motter of the Year,” read an announcement from organizer Johenry
Nunes that was subsequently shared with The Islander. “This year [Isle La Motte] recognizes all her accomplishments.”

According to the announcement from Nunes, community members in Isle La Motte would be invited to the town’s office on June 7 for “a fun evening of food and stories.” A public celebration for Callahan was scheduled to start at 6 p.m. that evening.

Created by Nunes in 2023, the “Isle La Motter of the Year” award is intended to honor Isle La Motte residents who have contributed to the small Champlain Islands community.

Prior recipients have included Dr. Neil Hanna, the Isle La Motte Preservation Trust’s founder Linda Fitch, and longtime volunteer and former selectperson Chet Bromley.

“This is a way for the town to say thank you for the year,” Nunes previously told The Islander shortly before the inaugural “Isle La Motter of the Year” award was presented to Bromley in 2023.
