South Hero Fourth of July Parade draws crowds for memorable celebration
SOUTH HERO – South Street was lined with spectators on July 4 as the community turned out in force for what many longtime attendees called one of the best South Hero Fourth of July parades in recent memory. The annual parade began at 11 a.m. and once again showcased the community spirit that has made it a favorite Independence Day tradition.
The parade featured a large and diverse lineup of participants, from local organizations and decorated vehicles to community groups, businesses and families, reflecting the event’s continued growth over the years. Many in attendance remarked that this year’s procession was among the biggest and most impressive the town has hosted.
Serving as grand marshals were the Horne family of Keeler Bay Variety, recognized in honor of the late Mark Horne, whose years of dedication to the community left a lasting impact. As the Horne family led the parade, spectators responded with warm applause in a heartfelt tribute to a man remembered by so many.
From start to finish, the parade celebrated both the nation’s 250th birthday and the close-knit spirit of the Champlain Islands, with neighbors gathering along South Street to wave flags, cheer for participants and enjoy one of South Hero’s signature community traditions.
