Stanley Alton Wood – (1941-2026)

GRAND ISLE – It is with heavy hearts the family of Stanley Alton Wood shares his passing; a lifelong Vermonter who died on May 13 at the age of 85.

Stanley was born in Gilman, Vermont, and was raised on a family farm in Hyde Park. Stanley was the son of J. Reginald and Alena Savage Wood. He was a 1958 graduate of Lamoille Central Academy and served for 6 years in the Air Force National Guard.

Stanley married Nancy Ploof on May 3, 1969, and they celebrated 57 years together.

Stanley was a jack of all trades having worked at IBM for 16 years. He and Nancy were co-owners of the Green Frog Gift Shop for 43 years, where Stanley enjoyed visiting with all their customers.

Stanley especially enjoyed spending time at their cottage in North Hero where he and Nancy would often go for relaxation and to enjoy the beauty of Lake Champlain. Stanley’s beautiful smile will be missed.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Nancy; his brother, Lowell of Redford, Michigan; his brother, Tom Wood of Hyde Park; his sister, Carmen Audet Spear of Hyde Park; and his foster sisters, Darlene Dolan and Connie Farrington.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, and his foster sister, Sharrie.

There will be a private service at a later date. In honor of Stan’s memory, donations may be made to Grand Isle Rescue, PO Box 79, Grand Isle, VT 05458.
