Summer food distribution continues in Grand Isle County and Milton

Summer food distributions are continuing in Grand Isle County and Milton, providing free meals for children throughout the school summer break.

For the summer, the Grand Isle Supervisory Union has partnered with the Burlington School Food Project to distribute meals for children in the Champlain Islands. The supervisory union will once again distribute a weeks’ worth of food to local families every Thursday afternoon in Grand Isle and Alburgh.

Distributions in Grand Isle County will also be supported by Food for Thought, a local organization based in South Hero that helps distribute locally-sourced food and books for children in need.

In Milton, the Milton Town School District has announced a similar program that will distribute meal kits at a pickup site every Thursday afternoon in Bombardier Park. The Milton Town School District is also offering an onsite location for daily school breakfasts and lunches at the Milton High School.

Local children either 18 years old or younger qualify for the free meals, according to advertisements from both the Grand Isle Supervisory Union and the Milton Town School District. Meals organized by either district are free for children not receiving meals from another summer school, summer camp or summertime meals program.

School officials in Grand Isle County are asking that people register with the Grand Isle Supervisory Union before attending a distribution to help with planning for each week’s distribution.
No registration is required for Milton’s free meals program.
